Default How contagious is athlete's foot?

I just found out my brother has it, and he says he's had it for over a year. It was nice of him not to tell anyone, since he walks around our house barefoot and shares a shower with me.I don't have any symptoms of it, is it likely that I could have it and not have any? I thought athletes foot was really contagious, is it likely that I could have managed not to get it?

Athletes foot is very contagious. You may have it and not know it. You would have to see a doctor for sure. Buy a pair of flip flops and ware them in the shower and any place else where your brother walks barefoot.

To answer your question, it may be but is not always contagious. Some people are more easily affected by the fungus that causes athlete's foot while others are more resistant. It's typically transmitted in moist environments where people walk barefoot, such as showers, bath houses, and locker rooms & can also be transmitted by sharing footwear with an infected person etcAthlete's foot causes scaling, flaking and itching of the affected skin . Maybe you got lucky (although it's possible to have it and not have any symptoms) you could always get some over-the-counter anti-fungal treatment to be on the safe side if you're eally worried. But considering you haven't got any symptoms - it's probably not necessary.Everything you probably need to know here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletes_footWhy'd he have it for a year & not do anything about it? :/Kick his ass & tell him to get some treatment!!
