What is the difference of a pier and beam foundation and a concrete block foundation?

Pier and beam is poured concrete to form a solid pier and concrete blocks are just that... concrete blocks that can move more if the ground shifts.

OK a pier foundation is where pilings are sunk into the ground with beams attached to them us ally about a foot off the ground the beams stretch from pier to pier . With a block foundation the foundation goes around the whole structure and would form more of a craw space /pier foundations are more common in wet land areas where you can not place blocks below the frost line if in a northern climates
