Try putting some olive oil on the top ball. Wait for 10 minutes, then remove it.

had the same problem, used mouth wash to disinfect, then used two pair of needle nose pliars to loosen. it may hurt a little, but i am sure that you are in a little pain right now. once you get it off, disinfect the tongue ring with peroxide, then mouth wash so that you are not putting the infection back into your mouth.

Before you go sticking pliers in your mouth (which is the next step if this trick doesnt work) try putting on a pair of rubber gloves. Wipe the balls dry with some paper towel and grab both the top and the bottom balls with your gloved hands. Often this will let you get just enough friction to get the ball loose. If it doesn't work with you trying it, have a friend who really loves you put on a pair of gloves and try. Sometimes the angle is just different enough that they can get it loose when you couldn't. If you cant get it with gloves then yes try the pliers. Just be very careful as they can scratch your jewlery. Scratches can hold bacteria and physically irritate your piercing. If you do scratch your barbell then just trash it. I assume you're taking this one out to put another one in place, so you should have jewlery on hand. If you dont have another bar then try getting the pliers to bite down on the balls of the jewlery. BE CAREFUL as pinching your tongue will be excruciatingly painful and possibly make a real mess. If you still cant escape your barbell, then make the drive. 50 miles isnt all that far in order to get this taken care of. They will be able to sit you down and get that thing out of there in seconds. As a last bit of common sense, make sure you are turning the correct direction to loosen them. Sometimes you will think youve got the right direction, but you have it backwards. It takes practice to turn the correct way the first time every time.
