I known several graphic designers. Most liked their jobs. Most of the ones that were good at their job were paid well. Still it can be a very demanding job, where people expect you to come up with good ideas and implement them in short order. Among the five design occupations, graphic designers are expected to have the most new jobs through 2014; however, job seekers are expected to face keen competition for available positions. If you are good, it is a very good choice. I not sure if I say it was fun, but it is rewarding to see you work admired by others. A good source of carreer information is the Occuptional Outlook Handbook(OOH) which is available online. According to the OOH:"Graphic designers—or graphic artists—plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to communications problems. They decide the most effective way of getting a message across in print, electronic, and film media using a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques. Graphic designers develop the overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate reports, and other publications. They also produce promotional displays, packaging, and marketing brochures for products and services, design distinctive logos for products and businesses, and develop signs and signage systems—called environmental graphics—for business and government. An increasing number of graphic designers also are developing material for Internet Web pages, interactive media, and multimedia projects."Much more data is available about this occupations at BLS website listed below
