Does washing organic cotton in the washing machine with regular laundry detergent have an effect on the organic material?

I'm not positive I know what you mean, but I will say this: I wash my organic cotton clothing in the washing machine with all my other clothes, and it comes out fine. What does the label say? If it says hand wash, you probably should. Organic cotton, like non-organic, can be woven to be more delicate and require hand-washing. As far as the detergent goes, like I said, I always just use my regular detergent (Tide, Era, whatever). I don't know if it's considered "organic" by a strict definition anymore, after it's had the chemicals of detergent on it.
